OUR STORY

History of the Club

The Stafford and District Polish Association (SDPA) was founded at the turn of 1968 and 1969, on the initiative of a group of Poles who settled in Stafford after the end of the Second World War and after demobilisation.

There were several demobilisation camps around Stafford for soldiers, their families and people resettled from Siberia, which is why the Polish community was large and well organised.

The Club's first home was in the building on the corner of Riverway and Lichfield Road, which is now a dental surgery.

Thanks to the enormous effort of the Polish community, some of whom mortgaged their own homes to secure a bank loan, Dom Polski (the Polish Home) was built, and it remains the centre of our activity to this day.

The official opening took place on 28 April 1990.

If you have photographs, documents or recollections from the club's early years, the Committee would be glad to hear from you.
